MR. GARY ZUCKER: We've handled many cases here at Zucker & Bennett involving bunion surgeries, also known as bunionectomies.
Probably the most misunderstood surgery that patients have. Most patients, and most of the patients are women, go to the doctor for these surgeries so that they can wear shoes are otherwise uncomfortable for them and they believe that it's a simple procedure where you simply cut off the bump and it's done in a doctor's office, so they view it as a very simple surgery.
In fact, it's a very complicated surgery involving fractures of many bones and reconnections of tendons and ligaments in the foot. It's probably the only surgery that anyone ever has where the patient puts the full body weight on the surgical site with every step that the patient takes following the surgery.
If not done properly, the patient can experience leg pain, back pain and difficulty walking. If you've had a problem following bunion surgery, please give us a call.
