MR. ZUCKER: We also handle injuries involving defective products. Defective products can be anything from a-- Any type of product. It can be a household appliance, it can be a car. Frequently the cases we handle, I think the most common products liability cases that we handle actually involve industrial machinery. They involve people who are injured using some type of machinery in the course of their employment. It could be a press operator. We’ve handled cases involving punch presses where people are working at a pressing machine and there's typically a die that comes down and stamps or makes a mold and these cases usually involved injuries to the hand, which is inadvertently in the area of the machine. We've handled cases involving a dry cleaning press. Somebody was working on a press and his hand got burned. He was working in a dry cleaners. Cases involving kitchen equipment. We had a case which is still currently pending involving someone who was a kitchen worker at one of the Red Lobster restaurants here in New York and was injured as a result of the design of a dishwasher that was used in the kitchen.

In New York, and this is generally true throughout the country, if you're injured in the course of your employment you cannot sue your employer you can only receive workers compensation. However you do have the right to sue any other party who may be responsible and in these cases the lawsuits were instituted against the manufacturers of the machinery.
